Braunschweig was one of the first cities in which Swapfiets has been available since 2018.
On average, over 1,000 Braunschweig residents and almost 60,000 cyclists in 30 cities in Germany have subscribed to a Swapfiets and use it almost every day. Not only are they healthier, faster and more flexible on the go; Rather, cycling contributes to a car-free and therefore greener and healthier city.
Swapfiets has been offering its service in Germany since 2018. There are now almost 35,000 cyclists in 21 German cities with a Swapfiets. In the last few weeks, nine more German cities have been added, topping to 30 in total.
Bike enthusiasts in Frankfurt, Darmstadt, Mainz and Wiesbaden can therefore subscribe to their own quality bike from Holland at a reasonable price. The company is currently delivering the Deluxe 7free delivery at a price of 19.50 euros per month. Anyone who can show a certificate of enrollment or a valid training certificate pays 2 euros less per month. In addition, there is a one-time setup fee of 15 euros when registering. This does not apply to customers who take out an annual subscription. In March, in addition to the Deluxe 7, the typical Swapfiets Dutch bike Original will also be available in the Swapfiets service areas of the Rhine-Main region . The e-bike Power 7 , which has already been introduced by Swapfiets in various cities, will not be available in Darmstadt, Mainz and Wiesbaden for the time being.
The clever concept of Swapfiets is very well received in times of increasing urban mobility, because a personal on-site repair service is included in the monthly subscription. Within 24 hours, the “swapper” comes to the appointment and meeting point agreed via the app or telephone and repairs the swapfiets. If it cannot be repaired within 10 minutes, it will be exchanged directly for a new Swapfiets. Hence the name Swapfiets — “swap” (the English word for ‘to exchange’) and “fiets” (Dutch for ‘bicycle’).
Over 175,000 customers
Swapfiets is the first company in the world to offer “Bicycle as a Service”. This distinguishes Swapfiets from other rental bike concepts: With Swapfiets, the bike becomes the long-term ownership of the subscriber. With a total of more than 175,000 customers at the beginning of 2020, the company is a successful model across the Dutch national borders. The subscription and any service orders that may become necessary for a repair can be managed completely online via the Swapfiets app. Swapfiets stores are to open in Frankfurt and Mainz in a few weeks. No stores of their own are currently planned for Darmstadt and Wiesbaden.
