Finnish food delivery company Wolt is now offering its service in the German cities of Frankfurt and Munich. Just a few months ago, the food delivery service was launched in Berlin and this week is officially live in our Valley. In addition, a general manager for Germany has been hired and several open positions are available to support the growth and the operation.
After the “exit” of Deliveroo from the market, Liferando was the main big player in the food delivery service in Germany, but this may be about to change.
The publication FAZ also highlighted the story (in German):
Wolt´s CEO, Miki Kuusi , confirmed to FAZ, that the service is working with 70 restaurants in Frankfurt including “Best Woscht in Town”, “Mosch Mosch” or “FIVE GUYS”.
The company operates in 23 countries around the world. That is about half as many as the leading German delivery company Delivery Hero has on its list. Indeed one of its investors, Lukasz Gadowski, is the co-founder of Delivery Hero. Wolt disclosed the achievement of sales of more than 100 million euros in 2019.
The company was founded in 2014 in Helsinki, employs around 2000 people today, and is led by its co-founder and CEO Miki Kuusi. Wolt has raised €267M in funding from investors including ICONIQ Capital, Highland Europe, 83North, EQT Ventures, Inventure, Lifeline Ventures, Goldman Sachs Growth Equity, Supercell founder & CEO Ilkka Paananen and Nokia Chairman Risto Siilasmaa, among others.
